Small IT teams in higher education face a familiar challenge: broad mandates, limited resources and complex compliance requirements that demand sophisticated tooling. Off-the-shelf solutions rarely fit, and custom development traditionally requires dedicated developers.

This presentation tells the story of how one faculty IT team adopted AI pair-programming with Claude Code to rapidly prototype, iterate and deliver production-grade tools that solve real operational problems without a single developer on staff.

The talk follows the evolution of an Intune security and compliance toolkit built entirely through human-AI collaboration:

  • Group Visualizer: An interactive React app for mapping and understanding complex Intune group structures that aren't easily visible in Microsoft's native console
  • Intune Atlas: A local-first web application for auditing, analyzing and troubleshooting Intune policy assignments across hundreds of devices
  • Intune Assistant: A comprehensive administrator companion that marries policy analysis with CIS Benchmark compliance mapping, conflict detection and policy generation, turning spreadsheet-based compliance requirements into actionable, deployable configurations

Each tool addressed gaps where available solutions fell short: data that existed but wasn't visualized, complex compliance frameworks and audit questions that required manual tracing across multiple systems.

Attendees will see live demos of these tools and learn practical methods for collaborating effectively with AI coding assistants, including iterative design, the use of reusable "skills" and agent workflows and how to maintain quality and architectural coherence across ambitious projects even without a traditional software engineering background.
