AI at the library: Exploration and experimentation

Primary speakers:

Bilal Khalid, Director, Digital Library Applications, Library ITS

Jess Whyte, Librarian, Library ITS

Description:

Library staff are experimenting with AI in ways that directly affect how we work and what we can offer. This session brings together a series of lightning talks from colleagues across library departments who are in the middle of that work right now. You'll hear about connecting AI tools to library APIs through MCP connectors, using computer vision to pull metadata out of images and documents, testing AI in development workflows to see what actually saves time, experiments in transformation and exploring how AI can help us find and use our own institutional knowledge more effectively.

These are work-in-progress accounts of what people are trying, what's working, what isn't and which questions are still open. The goal is to share what we've learned and start a conversation about where this work is headed. Whether you're deep into AI, AI-curious or just a library-lover, there's something here for you.
